A+A discovering Prague

2021-04-19Aušra Gedrimaitė

Here I am, sitting on the shelf in my room where I sleep and work in our new flat in Prague. It's been a week since we've been living in the heart of Europe. And yes, You read it correctly, I basically live on a shelf and that is just one of the crazy things that we are living just now.

All lovely craziness of ours started right before Easter. We had the most wonderful chance to experience Easter preparation in the wonderful garden of one of our mentors. There we were decorating eggs with colours of melted wax crayons, wax candles, coloured pens and paints. With the sounds of everybody’s laugh and with sunshine on our faces, it was a bliss to have a moment of such pure creativity and relaxation. I have also shown how we decorate eggs in my home - with small all kinds of shaped pasta around eggs when boiling in onion leaves. Then we drank some tea with our A.I.M. team discussing education in different countries and how it is working in the current situation, about our lessons and adventures, about everything and nothing at all, as this afternoon was called our little farewell party as the next day was the day of our moving.

It was full of joy, excitement, our smiles and with way too many luggage. Indeed, it was rather hard to leave a place which for almost 8 months was called our home. Yet already then there was a feeling that something great is waiting for us in Prague. No doubt, moving up to the third floor with all of our stuff was a challenge on another level, yet with the greatest help, everything is possible. After unpacking, we were greeted by the city with the flames of settling sun in the windows of old town buildings. There are no words to describe the feeling when the place you have just stepped your foot in starts feeling like home immediately.

And our joy did not end there. In a few days, all 4 rooms of our flat were filled and so we got 2 new flatmates - very nice guys from Germany and Spain, staining in Prague for Erasmus studies programs. How can it be bad when we have the best flatmates and the best flat possible? Every day is filled with music, laughing, best possible food when we cook together and after long evenings chatting about everything and nothing at all, about countries, our dreams, experiences and languages, we always end up with goodnight hugs and sleep tight wishes in all possible languages as one little family of ours.

I must admit, it is way different now compared to our life in Česka Lipa. Prague is a lot bigger than Česka Lipa and it takes a bit more time to reach some wider space like a field or forest out of town, yet there are lots of wonderful parks, filled with cherries starting to bloom, and in the middle of the river there are few lovely islands. The vibe is also very different as Prague is more international. Everywhere we go we hear people speaking all the possible languages and such diversity is amazing as we meet a lot of students of our age studying under Erasmus studies programs and living in the same place as we do. Yet on the other hand it is not so much of a place to learn czech language, not like in Česka Lipa, and I already miss our outdoor team trips somewhere out to hills or forests… Luckily, we have already made new friends and meeting new and new people, so the vibe of Prague is simply wonderful all in all, bringing us something new each day, like tastes of new foods and all the colours of the dawns in the morning…

4 month. Less than 4 months is left for us to stay in the Czech Republic on our project. What will this all bring us? I believe nobody knows. Yet I know for sure that we will try to live the best out of those days.

Best wishes, hugs and kisses,

Yours Aušra
